Ifran, little Switzerland
Ifran is a Moroccan town, close to Meknes and Fes. It’s one of the oldest mountain towns in Morocco, at an elevation of 1655m above sea level. Unlike most other cities, especially in the region where it exists, Ifran is rather chilly in summer, snowy, heavily rainy and bitterly cold in summer that the lowest temperature in Africa (-23celsius) was recorded in this place.
Built on a small foothill, with elegant red roofs covered with snow in winter, attractively-colored flower fields, fruit orchards, forests of Cedar trees, lakes, lively pastures… all of this and more drove Ifran to hold the nickname ‘Little Switzerland’.
To make it more glorious, the charm of this town was taken advantage of and on its land was Al Akhawayn University founded in 1992.
