Fes el-Bali

Home » Fes el-Bali
Description:

It’s the oldest part of Fes built in 808 by Idriss II. It consists of two parts; the one on the right side of the river was settled by hundreds of Muslim and Jewish families who emigrated from Andalus, thus it was named ‘Andalusian quarter’. After seven years, 300 Kairouan families lived on the other bank of the river and it was called’Kairouan quarter’. Fes el-Bali was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, and is still a clear trace of the Andalusian civilisation, reflected in decorated palaces, aesthetically carved wood and copper, Mosaics with different colors and plaster columns.
