The Koutoubia Mosque is the largest mosque in Marrakesh which was built in the late 12^th century. Its name comes from the Arabic word for "book", because there was a book market nearby.

The minaret tower of Koutoubia mosque is 77 meters (253 ft) in height, and is designed in almohad style and was constructed of sandstone.
